Despite successful thrombus removal, some patients with ischemic stroke experience impaired reperfusion and neurological deterioration. In this presentation, Frederik Denorme and his team explore how von Willebrand factor (VWF) contributes to vascular complications following ischemic stroke. Using a murine model of transient middle cerebral artery occlusion, the study investigates VWF-driven thrombus formation in leptomeningeal vessels, the impact of IL-6 on ADAMTS13 activity and the resulting effects on cerebral blood flow. The findings offer mechanistic insight into how specific vascular dynamics and inflammatory signals influence VWF activity in the reperfused stroke brain.
